Conrad Ruiz (b. 1983) is a painter who lives and works in Los Angeles, California. In 2009, he received his MFA from the California College of the Arts where he was also honored with the Barclay Simpson Award that is granted annually to three graduating students. Inspired by the epic scope of Hollywood cinema and history painting, his large-scale watercolors on canvas and works on paper capture moments of collective euphoria and historical rupture, while problematizing popular notions of class, race and gender. His paintings have been included in numerous group exhibitions in San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles. His first solo show opened at the gallery in December 2009. Ruiz’s work is part of numerous permanent collections including Artnow International. His painting “Overload” was recently acquired by the Berkeley Art Museum, and is currently on view in the “Material Witness” exhibition.
